FOR THOSE LOOKING FOR A TRUE ADVENTURE
Towards the end of May a group of riders are setting off from Forest Freeride across the mountains on what is being dubbed 'The Welsh Ride Thing 09'. They'll be carrying everything required for 3 days riding and 2 nights under the stars. If that sounds like the kind of mountain bike journey that appeals to you, then get in touch ... wilderness trips can be organised for groups or individuals. Email or phone 01650 521301 for a chat about your requirements, prices, dates, etc.
PUTTING YOURSELF TO THE TEST
If you've ever fancied entering a mountain bike event, then there's never been a better time as more and more are being organised each year.
Entering your first event/race can seem quite daunting. "Am I good enough?" is a question often asked. Don't be put off by negative thoughts ... a Forest Freeride skills course will increase your ability and boost your confidence in tackling all types of terrain. We can tailor courses to suit, enabling you to develop the skills and techniques that you'll need on the big day.

Some events to consider:
Brecon Beast - choose from 70km or 110km ride over the tough terrain of the National Park. www.breconbeast.co.uk
A new breed of competition looks set to flourish this year. One example is the Kona Mash-up www.konaworld.uk.com/mash-up which pits riders against the clock on selected sections of some of the country's best trail centres.
The annual UK Single Speed Championship www.ssuk09.com has a very laid back atmosphere ... the racing almost being less important than the social side.
Mountain Mayhem 24 hour Enduro. Entries now open. www.osmountainmayhem.co.uk
Fancy downhill racing? The Caersws Cup holds 4 rounds at one of the best downhill venues in the UK.
www.nakedracing.com
Northern grass roots XC racing at Lee Quarry, Rossendale. If you are new to XC racing then consider starting with the 'Have a go' or 'Weekend Warrior' category. If you have a racing licence you must enter the 'Racing' category.

Southern XC racing. Varied venues, all the usual categories mean there’s racing for everyone, from 6 year olds and beginners to 60 year olds and elite athletes.
